Telling Feather Press

On September 21, 2019 I established Telling Feather Press, a part of Full Spring Studio, LLC. I’d been wanting to acknowledge the integral role of writing to my creative practice and create a place from which to operate as a publisher.

Featured Offering: Earth Rise: Poems by Jonee Brigham

Earth Rise Cover, Signed and Numbered Edition #1

Earth Rise is a collection of six poems from 2007 to 2019 that were gathered for a poetry reading in summer of 2019. Some were originally part of public art works or artist’s books, and some were generated independently. Children’s Nest Egg (2007), was created for a public art work first at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and then at Westwood Hills Nature Center. New Nest (a sequel) (2018) was written in reflection of my shifting feelings about the human-earth narrative in the 10 years since the first poem was written, and upon the occasion of the decommissioning of the Children’s Nest Egg art work. Dig (2010) was written in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and was created for an artists’ book by the same name. I wrote Earth Rise (2019) in response to the many moon anniversary documentaries in the last year, and as part of my reflecting on Earth’s perceived scale that was so poignantly shrunk by NASA in the famous Earthrise photograph of 1968. Acting it Out: [Planetary Stage Directions] is a poem inspired by the screenplay form, and dramatizes actual events that took place in a class I co-instructed at the University of Minnesota. The events, like the climate crisis stories they reference take on mythic proportions and themes. Finally, A Wider Nest (2019) is a return to solace in natural life relationships observed one morning as I sat in my window seat. You can hear me reading Dig and Earth Rise in two recent videos.

Poems include a selection of rhymed and free verse forms. The text pages are laser printed. The end sheets are Nepalese handmade lokta bush paper. The cover is Fabriano Tzitiano 40% cotton paper, with an original mixed media drawing of crayon and sumi-e ink, and a hand-stitched binding of waxed linen.
